A Monster Identity Gamifying Children’s Mindfulness

Stix is the world’s first in mindfulness technology, championing neuro-diversity and focussed on developing peace of mind for children & parents. Something amazing we can all get behind and with a global mindfulness market set to reach $9Billion by 2027. So, when co-founder Liam came to us with the need to gamify his emerging platform, we knew we needed to create a system that gave the brand flexibility for growth in all directions.

The Challenge

As many parents will testify, keeping children engaged in anything can be a challenge. On top of that Stix, was missing a distinct brand language. As a result, we were invited to work with the company to help develop the visual direction for the brand. One which communicated effectively with its audience and also expanded its personality to become as engaging as possible.

What We Did

Building from the ground up, we developed a playful ecosystem with Stix’s monsters at the core. We utilised these bespoke illustrations across, award badges, social designs, interactive digital elements and animations giving character to these exchanges. The Monsters also form the basis for the in-app reward system, gamifying the entire experience around Stix and making the platform fun and engaging for everyone.

A Monster Challenge

 

It was important for us to show the range of expression the monsters could achieve and give the internal team not only a wealth of assets to work from but also a framework for future development. Working with the internal development team we produced an extensive and expandable wardrobe, that maximises customisation while maintaining cohesion and without sacrificing playfulness. This subsequently expanded into an animated toolkit for use across the brand, going as far as personalised monsters for team signatures.

Stay Flexible

 

Being a young company, setting up for Kickstarter, we knew that the brand language needed to be as accessible to children as it was appealing to parents and investors, it needed to be fresh and leave a professional imprint. Likewise, the brand online presence needed to communicate a huge breadth of information to a broad audience. Although focussed on engaging younger mums; educating new audiences was an essential proof of concept. As such the voice is an authentic brand story, with threads of insight and technology for the more sceptical audiences.

App, App & Away

 

The Stix app is at the head of the platforms operation. It acts as the doorway for children to engage with the Stix remotes, meditations and activities to help guide them on their mindful journey. Working with the Stix team we helped develop the content of app, and populate it with fun ani-monsters, playful illustrations and a whole array of elements to create a captivating user experience.

Studio BND helped us direct our branding into something far better suited to our target audience, and provided us with a catalogue of excellent content that we continue to use everyday to promote our brand. I look forward to our Tuesday morning calls every week!
